Abstract
COUTINHO, Helena; CUNHA, Ana Luísa and BARROCA, Helena. Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. Arq Med [online]. 2009, vol.23, n.2, pp.31-34. ISSN 2183-2447.
Eosinophilic granuloma is a Langerhans’ cell histiocytosis affecting mainly children. Lesions involve most frequently flat bones and uncommonly involvement of the orbit is seen. We describe two five year-old children with eosinophilic granuloma involving the orbit. Clinical presentation was similar in both cases with proptosis and the presence of an orbit osteolytic lesion. Histology and immunostains confirmed the diagnosis. Differential diagnosis was considered with other entities such as Rosai-Dorfman disease and Juvenile Xanthogranuloma. In this context we made a revision, in our department, of the last five years. From a series of 11 patients with eosinophilic granuloma (54.5% children and 45.5% adults) we found a predominance of bone involvement in children while in adults extraosseous locations were more frequent.
