TeleGerontología: Un nuevo recurso de apoyo gerontológico a domicilio

Resumen. El envejecimiento poblacional en el que estamos inmersos, junto con la carencia de recursos asistenciales dirigidos a las personas mayores, ha hecho que desde diferentes grupos de investigación se hayan ido estableciendo diferentes líneas, que aprovechando los grandes avances en el campo de las nuevas tecnologías (TICs) permitan abordar nuevas iniciativas que de alguna manera vengan a llenar el vacío que ha caracterizado a este campo de actuación. En este sentido, desde la Universidad de La Coruña (GIG), en colaboración con un Centro Gerontológico de Estancias Diurnas (CGED) y otras entidades, nos encontramos desarrollando un dispositivo "Telegerontología" , que actuando a distancia desde un centro control, permita a las personas mayores, en la distancia y a través de su televisor, beneficiarse de diferentes contenidos entre los que se incluyen los terapéuticos (tele-estimulación cognitiva y videoconferencia), posibilitando su continuidad en su hábitat natural, su hogar, evitando la institucionalización precoz.

Abstract. The population ageing process in which we are immersed, together with the lack of welfare means addressed to old people have provoked the outline of different lines from different research groups. These lines, taking advantage of the great breakthroughs in the field of the new technologies (ITCs) allow to deal with new initiatives that somehow, fill in the emptiness that has characterized this field of actuation. In this sense, and from the University of A Coruña (GIG) in collaboration with an Adult Day Care Centre (CGED) and other entities, we are developing a “Telegerontology” device which acting from a distance control center, allow the old people, in the distance and through their own television set, to benefit from different contents such as therapeutics (cognitive tele-estimulation and video-conference). This facilitates the continuity in their natural environment -their homes, avoiding their early institutionalization
