Prostituição: percursos (com) sentidos. Leitura integrativa das trajectórias familiar e escolar no percurso prostitutivo

Partindo de uma reflexão crítica sobre o modo como o conhecimento evoluiu e de que forma esta evolução se reflectiu no entendimento do fenómeno prostituição, o estudo aborda esta problemática, relacionando-a com as vivências em fases precoces da trajectória de vida de homens e mulheres que se prostituem. Com esta investigação pretende-se contribuir para o conhecimento do fenómeno prostitucional, designadamente, compreender de que forma os seus actores significam esse comportamento e o integram nas suas histórias de vida.

Com base na Teoria do Sujeito Autopoiético – uma teoria que nos permite escapar aos constrangimentos deterministas que colocam a prostituição entre a doença e o 2desvio” – foram analisadas trajectórias de vida de nove pessoas (cinco homens e quatro mulheres) que se prostituem. Para tal, recorreu-se a entrevistas “em profundidade”, realizadas segundo um guião previamente elaborado, que permitiu a recolha de material significativo para o próprio e relevante para a investigação.

Entre outras conclusões, verificou-se que, embora a decisão de alguém se iniciar na prostituição deva ser analisada no contexto de factores que, em primeira instância, fazem parte da cadeia social e se desenvolvem no contexto de oportunidades e pressões que emergem quando as ligações convencionais, contratos, contextos e crenças falharam, trata-se de um processo de construção em que os significados são utilizados e validados como instrumentos para a orientação da acção.

Prostitution: meanings and paths. An integrated analysis of the road within family and school along the prostitution path

Relying heavily on a critical reflection concerning the way the knowledge of the phenomenon of prostitution has evolved as well as the specific manner this same evolution has reflected on the understanding of this issue, we aim at relating it to the early life experiences of male and female prostitutes. The objective of this investigation is to grasp the meaning of the behaviour of the individuals who prostitute themselves and the way they integrate it in their life stories.

Basing this study on the Theory of the Autopoietic Subject (Teoria do Sujeito Autopoiético) – devoid of any constraints imposed by determinisms which have perceived the phenomenon of prostitution as standing between an illness and some kind of deviation –the life story has been examined of nine persons (five men and four women) who have become prostitutes. To achieve this, a number of “wide-ranging” interviews have been carried out following previously devised questions that enabled the gathering of significant material.

Amongst other conclusions, the study has made it clear that a person’s decision to become a prostitute must be considered within the context of several factors which, first of all, are part of the social tissue and that develop in a complex context of opportunities and pressures that emerge when all the conventional relationships, contracts, contexts and beliefs have failed. We are dealing with a construction process in which the very meanings are used and validated as orientation instruments towards prostitution activity.
