O efeito do treinamento contra resistência na síndrome da dor lombar.

RESUMO

A dor lombar atinge cerca de 80% da população adulta, gerando um custo anual de milhões de dólares. Embora a etiologia nem sempre seja clara, excetuando algumas patologias bem definidas, a hipotrofia das fibras do tipo I e II, no multífido e eretores da coluna parece estar sempre presente. A resistência de alguns terapeutas em recomendar o exercício como prevenção e reabilitação, perpetua um quadro de descondicionamento crônico, onde toda atividade física passa a ser evitada, gerando conseqüências socioeconômicas graves para esses pacientes. O objetivo dessa revisão foi demonstrar que o treinamento contra resistência, na reabilitação da dor lombar crônica, possui efeito clinicamente testado; ao contrário de algumas modalidades passivas de reabilitação, sobretudo no que diz respeito ao trabalho isolado dos extensores da coluna.

ABSTRACT

Effect of resistance training on low back pain syndrome.

Low back pain afflicts about 80% of the adult population, resulting in an annual cost of millions of dollars. Although its causes are not generally clear, except for a few well defined diseases, atrophy of fiber types I and II of the multifidus and erector spinae muscles seems to be usually present. Reluctancy of some therapists to recommend exercise as a form of prevention and rehabilitation of low back pain perpetuates a state of chronic de-conditioning, where any physical activity is avoided, leading to serious socio-economic consequences to these patients. The purpose of this review was to show that resistance training in the rehabilitation of chronic low back pain has a clinically tested effect, as opposed to some passive modalities of rehabilitation, especially in respect to isolated training of the back extensor muscles.
