Fetal-Alcoholic Syndrome: the psychologist s perspective

Abstract: In reference to a clinical case, the authors make a review on the Fetal-Alcoholic Syndrome (FAS), approaching not only the clinical findings that contribute for the diagnosis, but also the behaviour and cognitive characteristics and its evolution under the academic, social and familiar aspects. With posterior description of the clinical case of an adolescent with FAS, they intend to illustrate what comes described in literature and also demonstrate the difficulties that come across the health professionals in the diagnosis and implementation of the necessary therapeutical orientations, which are frequently complex, multidiscipline and continuous, as this syndrome presents a chronicle character.

Key words: Fetal-alcoholic syndrome, Alcoholism, Evaluation, Intervention.
