Promoção da qualidade de vida dos idosos portugueses através da continuidade de tarefas produtivas

Resumo: O actual panorama demográfico e as suas consequências no sistema social, desde o âmbito das relações familiares até ao funcionamento das estruturas macro, como a prestação de cuidados de saúde, obrigam à reconsideração do papel atribuído aos idosos no contexto português. Promover a qualidade de vida numa etapa de vida em que o declínio físico é incontornável, implica considerar critérios multidimensionais, como a manutenção da rede social e de actividades significativas. A perspectiva do envelhecimento produtivo enfatiza em simultâneo os contributos prestados pelos idosos à sociedade, através dos bens que produzem, e o bem-estar e qualidade de vida derivados do processo (Kaye, Butter, & Webster, 2003). Contudo, verifica-se ainda em Portugal ausência de planificação no sentido de implementar estratégias que direccionem e promovam a utilização dos recursos aportados pelos idosos, panorama que urge alterar.

Portuguese elders life quality promotion through productive tasks

Abstract: The current demographic circumstances and its consequences in the social system, from family relationships to the functioning of the macro structures, as well as health care, makes it necessary to reconsider the elder's role in the Portuguese context. To promote life quality when physical decline is inevitable implies considering multidimensional criteria, such as maintaining the social network and significant activities. The productive aging theory emphasizes both the contributions that elders can give to society, through the goods they produce, as well as the well-being and life quality that come from this process (Kaye, Butter & Webster, 2003). However, in Portugal there is still no planning for the implementation of strategies that can direct and promote the use of the resources that elders can give, which is something that needs to be modified.
