Abstract

New forms of work organisation and autonomy at work

The article discusses the ambiguity of the notion of new forms of work organisation, showing the necessity to distinguish between the human centred perspective and the efficiency centred perspective. This distinction is crucial to understand the differences between apparently similar elements of the new forms of work organisation, for example teamwork. The article questions the very diffused and influential thesis concerning the generalization of the intelligent, flexible and autonomous work. It is defended the point of view which considers that the work content and the degree of autonomy is different according to diverse factors, such as the type of division of labour between companies in the context of a global economy, the organisational logics followed by the companies, as well as the concrete work situations of workers.

Key-words work organisation, organisational innovation, autonomy at work
