Maria Do Rosário Dias (**)

ABSTRACT

The informational act and the modalities of information given to the breast cancer patient, while going through treatment, permit to identify features of psychosocial profiles inherent to the patient protagonism, describing some categories namely the «informed patient» and the «uninformed patient». This article is an approach to the information given to oncologic patients in the institucional context, enhancing the role of information given in the strategies of psychosocial adjustment of the patient and, on the other hand, we stress the protagonism of the mastectomized women in their role of veteran patients.

Key words: Breast cancer, patient information, psychosocial adjustment, informed patient, uninformed patient, volunteers.
