ABSTRACT

This article consists in the proposal of an alternative procedure to the usually adopted in the categorization of the questions formulated in the studies of hypothesis testing about the others. In some of them (e.g., Devine, Hirt & Gehrke, 1990; Martins, 1996; Snyder & Swann, 1978; Swann & Giuliano, 1987), that categorization has been offering difficulties to the judges, whose solution adopted is, here, considered as a possible source of biases. The procedure used by Martins (1995) is presented as an alternative to those of the antecedent investigations and his disadvantages are discussed.

Key words: Kappa coefficient, Inter-judges agreement, Inter-raters agreement, Codification of qualitative data, Qualitative analysis, Hypothesis testing.
