Abstract

MARQUES, Filipa Carlota et al. Amebic liver abscess in pediatrics: a path from the intestine to the liver. GE Port J Gastroenterol [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.5, pp.208-211. ISSN 2341-4545.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jpg.2014.06.004.

Hepatic amebic abscess is a rare disease in developed countries, but is important to consider such diagnosis in children with an hepatic lesion, fever and abdominal pain, although he/she has never been in an endemic country. It’s important to identify the source of contamination. We describe a case of a child with fever, abdominal pain, hepatomegaly with increased abdominal volume. The imagiology showed a solitary abscess in the left hepatic lobe and serology was positive to Entamoeba histolytica. Treatment consisted in metronidazole, paromomycin and percutaneous drainage.

Keywords : Extra-intestinal amebiasis; Hepatic abscess.
