Abstract

ALBERTO, Edite Martins; SILVA, Hélia; MEGRE, Rita  and  LOURENCO, Tiago Borges. And due to the great earthquake that occured in this Court: The Trinas Neighbourhood, urban and architectural evolution. Cadernos do Arquivo Municipal [online]. 2019, vol.ser2, n.12, pp.43-72. ISSN 2183-3176.

The Earthquake of November 1st of 1755 was essential for Lisbon to expand to areas of the city still poorly consolidated. One of the largest and most relevant private allotment operations of this period, was developed by the initiative of the religious nuns of the Convento de Nossa Senhora da Soledade (also known as Trinas) on the farmlands nearby the convent. The present study analyses the Trinas neighbourhood in a comprehensive way, tracing back to its urban, constructive and architectural evolution, from its origins to the present day.

Keywords : Urbanism; Architecture; Trinas Nuns; Urban Neighbourhood; Lapa.
