Abstract

REAL, Helena  and  CRAVEIRO, Célia. Past, Present and Future Perspectives on the Profession of Nutritionist in Portugal. Nutrícias [online]. 2014, n.21, pp.20-23. ISSN 2182-7230.

The training leading to the nutritionist profession in Portugal began in 1975. Forty years later, it is estimated there are currently around 1500 nutritionists in Portugal. Despite a still short history, this profession already contains many significant events that boosted it, making it one recognized by institutions, companies and the population. Given the current situation, we believe that new areas of activity will emerge in the future, and may take a highlight identical to clinical nutrition, area of activity where more nutritionists exert their function. However, it would be important the recommendation of nutritionists ratios by the government, in the various areas of activities / places of work, in order to facilitate the collaboration of these professionals. This article therefore aims to reflect about the past, about the present and about future perspectives on the profession of nutritionist in Portugal.
