Abstract

SILVA, Ana Patrícia; MACHADO, Maria da Conceição  and  LEITE, Teresa. Avaliação de desempenho docente, supervisão e desenvolvimento profissional. Invest. Práticas [online]. 2015, vol.5, n.1, pp.41-66. ISSN 2182-1372.

This paper focuses on the role of the educational supervision in the context of the evaluation of teachers' performance (ETP), trying to understand how the formative dimension of the evaluation was considered and developed in schools. To this end, two studies were conducted in a group of schools of the outskirts of Lisbon, encompassing teachers (evaluators and evaluated) from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades. The studies had as overall objectives: i) to get to know the conceptions of evaluators and evaluated on the fundamentals and practices of the ETP developed in their professional contexts; ii) to define the role conferred to supervision by evaluators and evaluated in this process. For data collecting, we resorted to semi-directive interview, using content analysis for data processing. The analysis of the interviews' results shows that the conceptions about ETP, of different grade teachers, are similar but the process of evaluation and supervision was experienced differently. The supervision role in the ETP depends in large degree on the competence of evaluators, as supervisors and as teachers, and is facilitated by the prior existence of a collaboration culture among teachers.

Keywords : educational supervision; teacher evaluation; formative evaluation; professional development.
