The "Mapas" series of the Portuguese artist Jorge Pinheiro provides the starting point of this article that discusses the information representation visual systems as variations on a single human technology: drawing, considered as a matrix of all representation and information encoding in communication. It is verifiable in the form-content relation that as strongly the representational system encodes, as strongly it represents itself.
