HENRIQUES, Carolina; CACEIRO, Elisa; LUISA SANTOS, Maria  y  RAMALHO, Sónia. Adaptation of the Spirituality Rating Scale for pregnant women. Revista Portuguesa de Enfermagem de Saúde Mental [online]. 2019, n.21, pp.9-15. ISSN 1647-2160.  https://doi.org/10.19131/rpesm.0232.

BACKGROUND: Increasingly, spirituality has been integrating health care through the growing need to understand the Human Being as a whole. Spirituality is seen as a mechanism of coping, favoring their social and emotional support. AIM: To know the sociodemographic and obstetric characteristics of pregnant women enrolled in Portuguese hospitals; Assess the level of spirituality of pregnant women; Adapt the Spirituality Assessment Scale in Portuguese pregnant women. METHODS: A descriptive research was developed, simultaneously adapting the Spirituality Assessment Scale directed to a sample of Portuguese pregnant women. RESULTS: 464 pregnant wome had a mean age of 31.56 years (dp = 5.129), 74.5% were married, 51.3% lived in an urban setting, 38.4% had basic education, 94, 6% lived with the father of the future child, 80% reported having no economic difficulties and 89.6% were Catholic. They revealed a level of spirituality of 15.39 (dp = 2.88), above the average value of the scale (Xmed = 12.5). It was observed that Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin indicated an index of 0.683, and Bartlett's sphericity test was largely significant (p <0.001). We obtained better results with a one-factor matrix, in which it explains about 55.58% of the phenomenon under study. The instrument has good internal consistency (Cronbach's of 0.799). CONCLUSION: The questionnaire seems to be reliable and valid for assessing spirituality in a population as specific as pregnant women, which reveal a level of spirituality above the average value of the scale.
