INTRODUCTION: Professionals that manage health services need to have knowledge and emotional balance. However, lack of investments in infrastructure and public policies can make working conditions precarious and favors sickness of workers, jeopardizing the functioning and effectiveness of Brazilian health services. AIM: To evaluate quality of life, engagement, anxiety and depression among managers of the Family Health Units. METHODS: Cross-sectional study with 15 managers of Family Health Units. Data collected with Whoqol-bref (Fleck et al., 2000); Beck Anxiety (BAI) (BAI) (Gomes-Oliveira et al., 2012) and Beck Depression Scales (BDI-II) (Beck et al., 1988); Utrech Work Engagement Scale (UWES) (Vazquez et al., 2015). RESULTS: Age varied between 24 and 55 years. There was a prevalence of female (80.0%), overweight or some degree of obesity (20.0%) and married (53.3%). Average time in the Family Health Strategy of 2.9 years. The quality of life scores was higher than 58.0. The highest score was for Physical domain (60.8) and the lowest score for Environment domain (58.4). Some degree of anxiety was observed in 33.3% and mild depression in 26.7%. The professionals presented average level of engagement in all dimensions of UWES. CONCLUSION: Managers have good quality of life, with decline in the Environment domain; the engagement scores are in the mid-level. The rates of anxiety and depression present may be due to the professional burnout generated by the managerial work process.
