MARTINS, Conceição et al. Risk factors in mental health: Contributions to the biopsychosocial well-being of health professionals. Revista Portuguesa de Enfermagem de Saúde Mental [online]. 2016, n.spe3, pp.21-26. ISSN 1647-2160.  https://doi.org/10.19131/rpesm.01112.

BACKGROUND: In this research we studied the stress at work and its relation to mental health. We describe specific factors and psychosocial risk at work, particularly in the work of nurses and their implications for mental health and the bio-psychosocial well-being, such as: type of work; Content of work; Paper Performance; Interpersonal and grouprelations; Career development; New technologies and organizational Aspects. AIM: The main objective was to study the influence of some personal and environmental factors of biopsychosocial risk in mental health and the health professional’s well-being in the hospital setting. METHODS: This is a quantitative, transversal and descriptive study, of correlational type. Information gathering followed a protocol consisting of personal data and scales: general job satisfaction, general Questionnaire health, Health Questionnaire, Chronic Fatigue Scale, cognitive-somatic anxiety scale, Inventory Eysenck's personality, clinical Inventory of self, this problem-solving, vulnerability to stress and stress Questionnaire to work. The sample is not intentional probabilistic, consisted of 570 nurses in shift work and under normal conditions, in the hospital, making in the end, 360 nurses. RESULTS: The main conclusions indicate the following: Nurses expressed some dissatisfaction with the work environment; The whole sample shows low health indicators; In general, all nurses are vulnerable to stress; In relation to the stress produced by the organizational circumstances, the entire sample reveals high stress levels and their bio-psychosocial well-being clearly affected. CONCLUSION: From these results we must conclude that the higher chronic fatigue, cognitive neuroticism and anxiety, the greater the tendency of nurses to decrease the self-responsibility and fear. This relationshipcan become circular and lead to maladaptive behaviors, for example, indifference, disinterest, conflictual interpersonal relationships, among others. The consequences of such behaviors may translate into absenteeism, performance errors or desire to leave the institution.
