Abstract

MURCHO, Nuno; PACHECO, Eusébio  and  JESUS, Saul Neves de. Common mental disorders in Primary Health Care: A review study. Revista Portuguesa de Enfermagem de Saúde Mental [online]. 2016, n.15, pp.30-36. ISSN 1647-2160.  https://doi.org/10.19131/rpesm.0129.

BACKGROUND: Common mental disorders (CMD) are a concept created to describe a set of non-psychotic symptoms that are usually related with subclinical cases of anxiety, depression and stress and are considered one of the greatest Public Health problem worldwide due to its high prevalence in the Primary Health Care (PHC). AIM: Identifying the current scientific available evidence with regards to the CMD in the context of PHC in Portugal. METHODS: This is a narrative review study from field studies on the problem of CMD in PHC in Portugal, available in electronic open access databases and published in the period 2010 - 2015. RESULTS: From the studies found, six were selected for analysis, since these correspond to the inclusion criteria and prove the existence of a relatively high prevalence of CMD in this level of care, namely in what concerns depression, anxiety and stress, but regarding conversive symptoms as well. CONCLUSIONS: The status of CMD issue in the PHC is worrying either due to the high percentage of people who are affected, which is consistent with the international studies, either by the existing void regarding existent studies, which may suggest the low interest that this problem rises in terms of the scientific production in this healthcare context, despite its high importance to the mental health.
