RAINHO, Maria da Conceição; PIMENTA, Graça; ANTUNES, Maria Cristina  e  MONTEIRO, Maria João. Validation of Job Stress Scale for Nurses. Revista Portuguesa de Enfermagem de Saúde Mental [online]. 2015, n.14, pp.48-54. ISSN 1647-2160.  https://doi.org/10.19131/rpesm.0105.

CONTEXT: The changes at different levels, technological, scientific, economic and organizational that they are taking place, have an impact on management of organizations, specifically in the management of human resources, which often has an impact on workers' health. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to analyze the internal consistency of Job Stress Scale for Nurses, to check its validity through confirmatory factor analysis, and to validate the model of four factors proposed by Garrosa, Moreno-Jiménez, Liang and González (2008) through structural equation modeling (Anderson & Gerbing, 1988). METHODOLOGY: The validation of Job Stress Scale for Nurses consistsof four dimensions and 16 items, answered through a Likert scale of four points, ranging from 1 "strongly disagree" to 4 "totally agree"; the highest score corresponds to higher intensity of agreement, in each dimension. The participants were nurses performing functions in health institutions in the northern region of the country. RESULTS: The factorial model solution of four dimensions (overload, conflict interaction, role ambiguity and contact with death and pain), proved to be the most appropriate, as showed by the Global Fit Indices of adjustment CONCLUSIONS: The scale is reliable and valid to collect information on job stress in nurses. The application of this instrument will provide reliable information in organizations fostering the adoption of strategies to promote a healthy working environment for nurses.
