Resumen

BORGES, Elisabete Maria das Neves  y  FERREIRA, Teresa de Jesus Rodrigues. Bullying at work: Adaptation of the Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised (NAQ-R) among nurses. Revista Portuguesa de Enfermagem de Saúde Mental [online]. 2015, n.13, pp.25-33. ISSN 1647-2160.

Bullying at the workplace is presently raising greater interest, which suggests the importance and the need for its identification and implementation of intervention programs. This study aims at redrawing the "Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised"-NAQ-R (Einarsen & Hoel, 2001; Portuguese version from Araújo, McIntyre, & McIntyre, 2004) and analyzing its psychometric properties in a sample of nurses. The NAQ-R was applied, which assesses the phenomenon of bullying at work in what concerns Harassment, Exclusion, Quality/Overload and Undervaluation of Work. A convenience sample of 151 nurses attending post-graduate degree courses in nursing in a Nursing School in the northern region of Portugal was used. The questionnaire presented values of internal consistency of the global scale of 0.85, and between 0.67 and 0.76 for the different subscales. The validity of criteria has shown a statistically significant negative association between bullying and criterion measures of quality of life (Short-Form Health Survey SF36-V1) and general life quality, and a statistically significant positive association between bullying and work-related stress perception, thus corroborating other studies. It was concluded that NAQ-R scale offers satisfactory results for the evaluation of the phenomenon and can be considered a valid, reliable and sensitive instrument. However, Its use should be repeated withPortuguese participants, for consolidation of its psychometric properties. It usefulness will also be reflected on the prevention of the negative impact on occupational health and nurses’ mental, and the quality related with clinical practice.
