BACKGROUND: In historical terms, the investigation of mental health based it’s foundations on the teorical assumptions of the medical model, which defines it as the absence of mental disease or psychopathology. Nowadays, beside the absence of mental disease, mental health involves well-being, designated by some authors of positive mental health (Keyes, 2005). AIM: In this way, we present a study that have as an objective, characterize young Azorean adults mental health relatively to mental disease/psychopathology and to well-being/positive mental health. METHODS: In this study, participated 157 young adults aged between 18 and 30 years old, living in São Miguel’s Island, Azores. Data was collected with resource to a Socio-Demographic Quiz, to the Portuguese version of Warwick-Edinburgh mental well-being scale (WEMWBS), to Mental Health Continuum scale - reduced version (Adults) (MHC-SF) and to Stress, anxiety and depression scale (EADS-21). Data was treated with resource to the statistical program SPSS, version 22. RESULTS: Regarding the results, psychopathology levels and positive mental health levels present themselves as well as the differences in these according with socio-demographic variables. CONCLUSIONS: Generally, the population in study presents low levels of psychopathology, namely anxiety, depression and stress, and high levels of well-being/positive mental health, lying in flourishing.
