This research it’s about a multiple case study with an exploratory experiments, given that each participant of the sample completed a questionnaire to assess the family problems before and after the intervention, using the Questionário dos Problemas Familiares, translated and adapted to Portuguese by Xavier and Caldas de Almeida in 2002. All the formal and ethical aspects were respected. Sample selection was non-probabilistic intentional and was composed by three elements. This intervention consisted in nine sessions, developed in a weekly bases, for a period of one hour and thirty minutes. In all the sessions, several specialized interventions in mental health nursing, appropriate to each participant, were developed. The data obtained was processed in computer, using the Statistic Package for Social Sciences program, 14.0 version for Windows XP, and using the descriptive statistics (absolute frequencies). The results highlight the importance of this type of intervention to solve problems of family members of people with severe mental disorder. However, these results were not clear in one case.
