ISSN 1647-2160.

The present study addresses the impact of the Management of Anxiety in people hospitalized for depression. The need to help manage the symptom "anxiety" in people hospitalized for depression is critical for their recovery (CORDEIRO, 2003). For this Nurses Specialists Mental Health assume this responsibility, as is provided in the Unit of Competency F4.2. Regulation of Specific Skills Nurse Specialist in Mental Health Nursing - "Develops and psychotherapeutic processes sociotherapists to restore the client’s mental health and prevent disability, mobilizing the processes that best suit the client and the situation." The methodology used was the multiple case study with the application of the Scale of Zung Anxiety Self-evaluation, validated for the Portuguese population by PONCIANO, E., SERRA, A. e RELVAS, J. (1982), the two people hospitalized for depression at the Acute Psychiatric Services Local Health Unit of the Northern Alentejano, EPE, which were then subject to a specialized nursing intervention that consisted of five sessions to help manage the symptom "anxiety". At the end of the five sessions was the same applied Anxiety Self Assessment Scale, in order to assess whether the intervention of skilled nursing or not decreased the level of anxiety in these two people. This study was an exploratory nature and the choice of this sample was not probabilistic by convenience according to the study endpoint. We can conclude that, despite the results of this study are not generalizable, the methodology may be useful for people with depression learn to manage it more appropriate to their anxiety, because there was a decrease in anxiety levels in both cases after the intervention of skilled nursing. This intervention allowed to intervene at the level of cognitive process in order to help the person to control negative thoughts and to correct the misinterpretation of reality in order to adequately manage their level of anxiety. In this context suggests that this intervention can be prolonged in time in order to further reduce the level of anxiety, and that must be parameterized in SAPE.
