The mental health and psychiatry care, for several reasons, have always been implicit successive challenges related to mental health care itself, to its history, to the major legislative changes in this area, to the adjustment of the assistance to those changes and also to research. Given the national and international guides to mental health and psychiatry, quality of life (QOL) of people with mental illness becomes a key area of research, given its unquestionable importance in the assessment of intervention measures. Thus, this study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between quality of life and mental illness. Methodology: The present study is a comparative study of a quantitative approach, among people with mood disorders and people from general population without diagnosed mental disorders as part of a larger study. This paper analyses only the Social Relations Domain of QOL. Participants: The sample consists of 39 subjects with mood disorders and 39 subjects from general population. Instruments: i) World Health Organization (WHOQO-Bref), ii) Questionnaire Sociodemographic Data and iii) Graffar Index. Results: The data indicate the presence of worse QOL in Social Relationships subjects from this sample with mood disorders, when compared with the subjects from general population. This difference is reflected mainly in relation to sexual activity and personal relationships facets. Conclusions: These results allow reflection on a set of implications of mood disorders in Social Relations Domain of QOL. Also, these results reinforce the importance of respecting the personal relationships, sexual activity and social support variables in health assistance for this specific population.
