Abstract

LOUREIRO, Cândida. Treino de competências sociais - uma estratégia em saúde mental: conceptualização e modelos teóricos. Revista Portuguesa de Enfermagem de Saúde Mental [online]. 2011, n.6, pp.7-14. ISSN 1647-2160.

This article presents a literature review on the subject Social Skills Training and aims: i) describe basic concepts, including assertiveness, social skills and social competence; ii) present some of the theoretical models that support the training of social skills; iii) contribute to support assistance from specialist nurses in mental health and psychiatry and iv) encourage reflection on the need for further studies in the development of social skills/mental health promotion. In an attempt to aggregate what is known about this subject in a clear and objective way, highlight some concepts related to the subject as assertiveness, social skills and social competence. We compared the perspectives of different authors and presented some of the theoretical models that support the training social skills, in particular the social Model of Perception of Argyle, the model of operant conditioning of Skinner’s Model and the Model of Assertiveness Bandura’s social Learning. With regard to assertiveness, we describe the various communication styles (assertive, aggressive, passive and manipulative) based on observable behavior (verbal, nonverbal and verbal), thought patterns, feelings and emotions and the consequences for each of the communication styles. Expose a brief reflective analysis on the theoretical contributions to the production of scientific knowledge in mental health nursing.
