SALVARANI, Patricia Ishisaki; FERNANDES, Ana Carolina de Menezes  e  MORGADO, Fernando Manuel Raposo. Environmental Perception of Students on the Conservation of Sea Turtles in Aveiro, Portugal. RGCI [online]. 2013, vol.13, n.2, pp.137-144. ISSN 1646-8872.

Due to the exploitation of natural resources by man, animal and plant species face the threat of extinction. The human impact on habitats of sea turtles has been recognized for decades, and all species are listed as “vulnerable” or “endangered.” One way to make society aware of its importance and environmental risks is through information on these issues through the Environmental Education (EE), which emerged in the 60s and was pointed by the Stockholm Conference as one of the strategies for solving environmental issues and improve the education of individuals. In the school environment, for education to be effective, it is necessary that the teacher relates the content learned from the daily lives of students so that they think with their attitudes to environmental issues. This work aims to identify and characterize by the use of surveys, the perception of students from two schools in Aveiro, about the environmental concepts focusing on the Conservation of Sea Turtles. Based on the survey of the perceptions of students, it was possible to identify the need to sensitize them on environmental issues, especially in the conservation of marine animals, as the majority has no knowledge of the importance of its preservation.
