Abstract
PEREIRA-MATA, Rodrigo; FRANCO, Ana; GAGO, Carlos and PACHECO, Amália. Prenatal diagnosis of neural tube defects. Acta Obstet Ginecol Port [online]. 2018, vol.12, n.2, pp.134-144. ISSN 1646-5830.
Neural Tube Defects (NTD) constitute a heterogeneous group of congenital malformations which includes: anencephaly, cephalocele and spina bifida. The 2D and 3D ultrasound techniques along with the magnetic resonance imaging have been used to identify and characterize the majority of clinical relevant lesions. Meningomyelocele - the most frequent NTD - has been increasingly managed through fetal surgery, with promising results. This article pretends to review updated information about prenatal diagnosis and management of NTDs.
