Abstract

NASCIMENTO, Miguel do; DIOGO, Carla  and  ALVES, Cristina. Lesão do Nervo Peroneal Comum: Uma Urgência Ortopédica pouco Habitual. Rev. Port. Ortop. Traum. [online]. 2017, vol.25, n.1, pp.42-48. ISSN 1646-2122.

The common peroneal nerve results from the division of the sciatic nerve and is composed by fibers depending on the roots from L4 to S2. Clinically, its lesion leads to a weakness of the muscles promoters of dorsiflexion and eversion of the foot. The common peroneal nerve injury may be associated with numerous traumatic or insidious causes. Traumatic causes may occur in association with lesions of the musculoskeletal system, or individually by traction mechanisms, compression or nerve laceration. We report a case of a common peroneal nerve injury on a male patient, aged 14 years old, insulin-dependent diabetic, after a penetrating wound in the distal posterior-lateral region of the right thigh, caused by a glass. The patient underwent immediate urgent exploration and an end-to-end nerve suture was carried out. At 18 months after surgery the patient was discharged with a normal gait pattern, recovery of mobility and a small area of hypoesthesia on the dorsum of the hallux, and without any limitations in his daily activities or sports.

Keywords : common peroneal nerve; penetrating wound; foot dorsiflexion; neurorraphy.
