Abstract
SILVA, Norberto; MENDES, Ricardo; DUARTE, Guido and FERREIRA, Andreia. Osteoporose transitória da gravidez. Rev. Port. Ortop. Traum. [online]. 2012, vol.20, n.3, pp.347-352. ISSN 1646-2122.
Transient osteoporosis of the hip is an uncommon condition, characterized by painful hip and osteopenia of the femoral head and neck, which occurs during the third trimester of pregnancy and usually resolves during the fi rst two months postpartum. The diagnosis must be made by exclusion, including differential diagnoses such as cancer, tuberculosis and non-tuberculous infections, refl ex sympathetic dystrophy and avascular necrosis. Although pathologic fractures are rare, they are the most serious consequence of this pathology. In this article, the authors present two cases of transient osteoporosis of the hip during pregnancy, particularly interesting because both patients had suffered a pathological fracture of the femoral neck.
Keywords : transient osteoporosis; hip; pregnancy; pathological fracture.
