Abstract

PINTO, Francisco Guerra et al. Abordagem da displasia de desenvolvimento da anca irredutível: Resultados provisórios dos doentes tratados cirurgicamente nos últimos 5 anos. Rev. Port. Ortop. Traum. [online]. 2012, vol.20, n.2, pp.205-221. ISSN 1646-2122.

We retrospectively reviewed the clinical and radiological files from all the children with developmental dysplasia of the hip who underwent arthrography or surgery in our institution, in the last 5 years, due to failure of conservative treatement. All teratological hips were excluded, as well as all the children with less than 2 years of follow-up, to better assess the incidence ofavascular necrosis or other complications related to the treatment. We describe in detail the treatment strategy in 84 hips, according to the age of treatment (0-6 months, 7-18 months, 19 months to 4 years), the degree of dysplasia (according to Tonnis), the application of the department’s protocol and the incidence of avascular necrosis. We found avascular necrosis in 13% of children undergoing arthrography or surgery until the 6th month of life, in 9% of children between 7 and 18 months and 19% of children treated invasively between 19 months and 4 years.

Keywords : Developmental dysplasia of the hip; surgery; avascular necrosis; arthrography.
