It is widely known that the Internet is today the main pillar of electronic commerce, being the electronic marketplaces an infrastructure to support electronic commerce between organizations able to alter the relationship between clients and suppliers or among business partners. This lesson intends to present the electronic marketplaces emergence, sensitizing to the economic context in which they appear, introducing its characteristics and functionalities as well as the potential that its utilization represents to organizations.
