Abstract

Citizens have, today, increased demands and expectancies concerning Public Administration, in part due to the widely known potential that information and communication technologies can represent in the quality of the Public Administration services. The initiative undertaken by the Municipality of Barcelos (Câmara Municipal de Barcelos - CMB) in the field of e-Urbanism (http://www.cm-barcelos.pt/e-urbanismo) represents an innovative way of contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the services offered and, mainly, a way of introducing transparency in the decisions taken by the Department of Planning and Urbanistic Management. The paper introduces the concepts of e-Government and Local e-Government and introduces the project of e-Urbanism of CMB, specifying details of the already implemented solution, some of the main functionalities offered and some results achieved up to the present.
