This article explores the electoral development of an extreme right party and the management of the contemporary asylum crisis in Europe by one of the member states of the European Union, in particular France. With this purpose, the research examines the electoral development of the Front National and the ideological shifts within this party. The ambiguity identified on the management of asylum at the external level by President François Hollande and the French government are associated with the electoral threat posed by Le Pen at the 2017 presidential elections.
