The Caspian Basin is one of the key regions for Europe's security of supply strategy given the projected growth in natural gas consumption in Europe in the coming decades and the growing energy dependence on Russia. This article examines the potential and the challenges that this region could play in the EU's security of supply, particularly with the construction of the Southern Gas Corridor. It also analyzed the opportunities for Portugal intervene in the Europe energy supply.
