Resumo

The present paper introduces the concept of energy security and the way in which the new contents outlined in this concept are adapting to a new era for energy that will hopefully be cheaper and more plentiful. The paper argues the need for a reformulation of the aforementioned concept, in the light of the more recent threats, such as piracy or cyberterrorism, the implications for network security, the influence of technological challenges, the ongoing changes, the pressure on the traditional business models and “digital war”. The paper closes with a brief analysis of the challenges faced by Europe, currently and in the near future, as far as energy is concerned.
