Abstract

FELICIO, Maria José; LOPES, Albino; SALGUEIRO, Fátima  and  PARREIRA, Pedro. Management competencies: a measuring instrument of the Portuguese reality. Rev. Portuguesa e Brasileira de Gestão [online]. 2007, vol.6, n.3, pp.18-30. ISSN 1645-4464.

The purpose of this study is to describe the construction of a perceptive instrument of management competencies based on the CVF («Competing Values Framework») proposed by R. Quinn. A confirmatory factor analysis is the methodology used. The conceptual model identifies eight roles played by efficient managers. Each role integrates three competencies, totalizing a set of 24 management competencies. The eight roles and the 24 competencies integrate four well-known models in the Management Sciences literature. A sample of 194 respondents was used, covering a wide range of companies and management tasks. As a result of this study, a Portuguese version of a perceptive scale of management competencies was obtained, with good psychometric properties. We provide researchers with a useful and valid instrument for analyzing management competencies in organizational studies; and management professionals with a utensil of analysis and development of efficient managers adapted to the Portuguese reality.

Keywords : Management Competencies; CVF Instrument; Confirmatory Factorial Analysis.
