Abstract

BAYAN, Lúcia. Régulo and Comité: Adjustments and divergencies in Suzana Section. Cadernos de Estudos Africanos [online]. 2015, n.30, pp.167-185. ISSN 1645-3794.

This article analyses the current forms of local power in the Section of Suzana (Sector of São Domingos, Cacheu), in Guinea-Bissau, an area mostly inhabited by Felupe (Joola-ajamaat). This analysis intends to contextualize the current forms of local power in comparison with those of colonial and post-independence eras, aiming at understanding the adaptations required for the maintenance of political and social cohesion. Through bibliographical research, data collected in the field as well as interviews with various local actors, this paper focus on the adaptations of local power structures and languages, and its relations with the regional administrative organization.
