Abstract

Menopause is an important and normal process in the development of a woman's life, is perceived as a time of change in emotional and physical health. The objectives of this study were to evaluate: marital satisfaction in different stages; the relationship between quality of life, sexual satisfaction, mood changes and conjugal satisfaction during menopause; and, the socio-demographic and psychosocial determinants of marital satisfaction during menopause. This is a cross-sectional design study with 100 female menopausal participants. The instruments used were the sociodemographic questionnaire, Quality of Life Scale, Relationship Assessment Scale, Sexual Satisfaction Scale and Anxiety, Depression and Stress Scale. The results show that marital satisfaction and environmental quality of life are higher among younger women in the early stages of menopause (pre and peri menopause); a higher quality of life in all dimensions is associated with higher marital satisfaction; higher levels of stress are associated with lower marital satisfaction; and, positive predictors of marital satisfaction were social and environmental quality of life and stress, age and schooling were negative predictors of marital satisfaction.
