HUMBOLDT, Sofia von; CARNEIRO, Francis  y  LEAL, Isabel. What predicts adjustment to aging among lgb older adults?. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.1, pp.117-123. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/20psd210118.

Introduction: The purpose of this preliminary study was to build a structural model to explore whether sociodemographic, health and lifestyle variables are correlated with adjustment to aging in a group of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) older adults. Methods: The sample included 187 LGB older adults, aged 75 years and over. The following instruments were used: A socio-demographic, lifestyle and health questionnaire, the Adjustment to Aging Scale, and the Life Satisfaction Scale. A Structural Equation Model was used to explore a structural model of aging adjustment. Results: The structural model indicated the following significant predictors: perceived health (β = .656; p <.001), leisure (β = .354; p <.001), income (β = .345; p <.001), education (β = .199; p = .009), spirituality (β = .081; p <.001), sex (β = .056; p <.001), physical activity (β = .044; p <.001), life satisfaction (β = .027; p <.001), and marital status (β = 0.019; p = .008). The variables explained 68.1% of the variability of adjustment to aging. Discussion: These results suggest that policy making and interventions with LGB older people may benefit from the inclusion of perceived health, leisure and income, which are significant for promoting adjustment to aging.
