Common Mental Traits (CMT) are non-psychotic morbidities that are associated with more severe psychiatric disorders. Their screening in specific population groups allows anticipation of care and reduction of the consequences of exposure to these disorders. In this sense, the present study aimed to estimate the prevalence of Common Mental Disorders (CMD) and its association with sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle and chronic diseases in quilombola adults. The quantitative, epidemiological, cross-sectional method was based on the application of the Self-Reporting Questionnaire-20 and form with sociodemographic, lifestyle and chronic diseases questions in 850 adults living in quilombos in the Bahia region. Poisson regression was used to test the associations, allowing estimation of prevalence ratios. The prevalence of CMD was 29.61% (95% CI: 26.49-32.74), significantly associated with gender, back pain and work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMD). Thus, care actions are required for the mental health of the quilombola population, due to the high prevalence of CMD, especially among women and individuals affected by back pain and WRMD.
