Abstract

The teaching can be a stressful profession since professionals are exposed daily to situations that contribute to physical and mental imbalance. The objective of this research was to identify the stressors factors and the manifestation of physiological stress in effective teachers in activity in the education municipal. A total of 149 effective teachers from the Municipal Education Network of the municipality of Lages, Santa Catarina, participated in the study. Data collection was accomplished out through the application of a questionnaire adapted from the Stress Scale in the Work Environment and Stress Symptoms for Adults. The data were categorized according to the Likert scale of two points and classified in three categories (low, moderate, high) that represented the level of stress in teachers studied. The most teachers (87.2%) are stressed and have a low level of stress (50.8%). However, them present significant association with most of the physiological symptoms in all phases of the four-phase stress model. Therefore, it is necessary to alert teachers about the problems caused by stress to preserve their health and to avoid absenteeism or presentism.
