Abstract
SILVA, Terezinha et al. Spiritual support for hospitalized patients: perceptions of the multiprofissional health team. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2019, vol.20, n.2, pp.358-366. ISSN 1645-0086. https://doi.org/10.15309/19psd200207.
This study aimed to investigate how the multiprofessional health team deals with the spiritual dimension of hospitalized patients. It was performed with 27 health professionals through a questionnaire with semistructured questions, analyzed by the technique of content analysis. Two thematic categories emerged: Diagnosis of the spiritual needs of hospitalized patients; Strategies of spiritual support to the patient in the hospital environment. Professionals emphasize the importance of spiritual and religious practice in improving people's health and, therefore, infer the need to implement spiritual support actions in the practice of health care. The multiprofessional health team identifies the spiritual need of the patient during hospitalization, observing fragility, depressive process, pessimism and negativity, common in the final moments of life. The team promotes spiritual support to the patient using various strategies, especially communication, but the protagonism of spiritual support is not yet defined.
