Resumen

BOLOGNESE, Marciele et al. Binge-eating disorder: factors associated in overweight and obese adolescents. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.3, pp.755-763. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/18psd190322.

To analyze the prevalence of binge-eating disorder (BED) in adolescents enrolled in a multidisciplinary program for obesity treatment and the associated factors with the disorder. One hundred and forty adolescents with excess body weight took part in the study aged between 10 and 18 years, with 93 girls. The analysis of BED was performed through the Scale of binge-eating disorder (EBED), which was scientifically validated. Participants can be classified as without BED; with moderate BED; and with severe BED. We analyzed the association between the presence of BED with sex, age range, degree of excess body weight and body composition. From the total sample, 48 (34.3%) presented some degree of BED, with seven (5%) adolescents with severe degree and 41 (29.3%) with moderate degree. The BED was more presented in the female adolescents (41 of the 93 girls - 44.1%) than in male ones (7 of 47 boys - 14.9%). There were no differences between age ranges and the degree of excess body weight related to the frequency of BED. Adolescents with severe BED presented more body fat (absolute and relative) than adolescents with moderate or no BED. The present study suggests that BED is more frequent in girls and in those with more body fat.

Palabras clave : pediatric obesity; binge-eating disorder; adolescent health.
