CERTAL, Catarina y OLIVEIRA, Carla. HBM psychotherapeutic intervention: the impact of the model on panic disorder. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.3, pp.653-668. ISSN 1645-0086. https://doi.org/10.15309/18psd190315.
The incidence of Panic Disorder in the world population is 2% to 5% (Leal, 2010), which makes precocious and intensive treatment more urgent in order to prevent its chronicity (Hallstrom and Mcclure, 2000). The present study used quantitative methods with pretest and post-test in order to assess the impact of human behaviour map (HBM) intervention in the treatment of. The target population consisted of 105 subjects, with Panic Disorder, with a predominance of females (60.9%) and aged between 18 and 60 years (M = 33.53, SD = 10.65). There is a statistically significant difference (t (104) = 26.067, p <0.001) between the mean of the degree of intensity of Panic Attacks of the pretest and the post-test, concluding that the psychotherapeutic intervention using the HBM Model had a significant impact on the reduction of the intensity and severity of the Panic Attacks of the patients, with a total remission of Panic Attacks in 81.9% of the sample. One year after the end of the psychotherapeutic intervention, 89.1% of the sample (n = 65) presented with "total absence of Panic Attacks" or "A.P. Light". Anxiety is a normal reaction of the organism,so, the slight variation of the mean intensity of the Panic Attacks in the post-test (6,038) in relation to the follow-up (14,0) is perfectly normative taking into account the temporal gap without any type of treatment, revealing promising results for the construction of a new mental health paradigm, emphasizing the importance of psychotherapy in the treatment of Panic Disorder.
