BALBINO, Isabel Faustino; GALINHA, Iolanda Costa; MORAIS, Camila de Campos e CALADO, Sara Samoqueira. Contribution to the validation of the portuguese version of the authenticity scale. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.3, pp.564-577. ISSN 1645-0086. https://doi.org/10.15309/18psd190308.
The purpose of this study was to contribute to the validation of the Portuguese version of the Authenticity Scale (Wood, Linley, Maltby, Baliousis, & Joseph, 2008). According to the literature, there were no authenticity measures validated for Portuguese. Although, the Authenticity Scale has already been validated in a variety of countries, including Turkey, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, Sweden and Serbia. A sample of 374 participants, from various regions of Portugal, was collected (69% women and 31% men, aged between 18 and 85 years). The study was cross-sectional and the sample was non-probabilistic. The classic method of translation and back-translation of the original scale of 12 items, with three dimensions (with four items each) was used. The contribution to the adaptation of the Portuguese version of the Authenticity Scale followed four steps: a) exploratory factorial analysis of the dimensional structure of the Scale, with the factorial weights of items above 0,40 in the main factor and below 0,20 in the secondary factors; b) analysis of the internal consistency of the three dimensions and the overall Scale, with Cronbach's alphas between 0,70 and 0,80; c) correlational analysis between the three dimensions of the Authenticity Scale with correlations between -0,27 and 0,80; d) confirmatory factorial analysis through structural equation models, with an adjustment of ?251 = 94,81, p <0,001; CFI = 0,97; RMSEA = 0,05; SRMR = 0,04. The results indicated excellent psychometric qualities of validity and fidelity of the Portuguese version of the Authenticity Scale, similar to the original version and the international validation studies, ensuring a robust instrument for the measurement of Authenticity.
