Resumen

FLORINDO, Vanessa; REBOLO, Catarina  y  COSTA, Rui. Validation of a measure of trait absorption in portuguese: modified tellegen absorption scale. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.3, pp.490-502. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/18psd190302.

Absorption refers to an intense attentional focus on sensory and/or imaginary experiences, which induces a sense of unity with the object of attention together with a transient change of the usual notion of self, space and time (absorbed states). As a personality trait, it reflects the individual differences in the tendency to enter absorbed states in appropriate circumstances. Trait absorption has been associated to hypnotic susceptibility and openness to experience. The present study carried a validation of a Portuguese version of a measure of trait absorption: the Modified Tellegen Absorption Scale (MODTAS; originally composed by 34 items with response format on a 5-point Likert scale) by using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis in a sample of 370 subjects. We concluded the study with a structure different from the original, composed by 18 items distributed across four factors: imaginative involvement, synesthesias, sensory involvement and altered states of consciousness. Adequate psychometric qualities were obtained (factorial validity, convergent validity, sensitivity and reliability).

Palabras clave : absorption; personality; MODTAS.
