This article intends to review Positive Psychiatry and Positive Psychology etiology and core concepts, and their close relations with the concept of well-being. Focusing on the positive psychosocial characteristics, virtues and character strengths of the human being, these new approaches aim to a better understanding of psychopathology, modifying the focus in treatment from symptoms management to the promotion of well-being. Mindfulness, whose concepts connect with the positive approaches, is also presented as an essential complementary practice to psychopathology prevention and treatment, always having as final goal the life satisfaction and well-being of the individual.

Keywords : positive psychiatry; positive psychology; well-being; mindfulness.
