Abstract
CARIDADE, Sónia and BARROS, Sara. Dating violence, ideation and suicidal behaviors. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.2, pp.323-336. ISSN 1645-0086. https://doi.org/10.15309/18psd190213.
This study analyzes the relationship between dating violence and ideation and suicidal behaviors. We used the Conflict Tactics Scale Revised that evaluates the prevalence of different types of intimate abuse and the Inventory ideation and suicidal behavior. In this study participated 262 young people, mostly girls (75.2%), whose average age is 23.7 (S.D. = 4.14), who admitted to being involved in a dating relationship last year. In results psychological abuse takes greater dominance over all other types of abuse, in the perpetration (51.1%) and victimization (45.4%). The association analyzes revealed that offenders and victims have thoughts and/or suicidal behavior. When we consider the gender of the participants, we detected more statistically significant associations between ideation and/or suicidal behavior by women and the perpetration and victimization of different types of abuse. Thus, the results of this study endorse the need to develop efforts to identify and prevent dating violence. It is still necessary to implement suicide prevention strategies with this group.
