Resumen

LOPES, Rita Sousa; PATRAO, Ivone  y  GOUVEIA, Maria João. Online time perception: literature review. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.1, pp.151-156. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/18psd190122.

The current state of technological development has brought to light a set of emerging phenomena which represent prime topics for research. The use (and misuse) of information and communication technologies has led to a variety of public and private health issues (physical, psychological and relational). Problematic Internet Use (PIU) still lacks consensus both in regard to its conceptual framework and its diagnostic criteria. The purpose of the current research is to review current literature on PIU and study how an individual's perception of time is impacted by such use. A review was performed using established systemic criteria, encompassing research and papers published between 2012 and 2017. Data is presented for the different conceptual frameworks proposed, as well as the established criteria for the evaluation of the internet use phenomenon, including perception of the passage of time. We conclude that a consolidation of existing criteria regarding PIU is required to promote further evaluation and analysis. The present research is intended to contribute to the development of an instrument for measuring the perception of time spent online, helping clarify this as one of the criteria to be applied to PIU diagnosis. The aforementioned consolidation would also assist health care professional in targeting the specific needs of the population.

Palabras clave : problematic internet use; perception of time; online behaviour; internet addiction; review of literature.
