Abstract

MENDES, Leandra Silva  and  DIAS, Maria da Luz Vale. Relationship between parental educational styles, interpersonal confidence and bondage in adolescence. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.1, pp.136-143. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/18psd190120.

This investigation seeks to study the relationship between Parental Educational Styles, Interpersonal Trust, and the Attachment to Parents, Peers and to the Loving Couple in the period of Adolescence. It was also analysed the predictive effect of these styles on Attachment to Peers and to the Loving Couple and on Interpersonal Trust. The sample consists of 170 adolescents, aged between 12 and 17 years. Data collection was made using the following instruments: Sociobiographic Questionnaire; The Parental Educational Styles Scale; the Generalized Trust Beliefs scale-Late Adolescents; the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment; and the Romantic Attachment Questionnaire. The results show significant positive associations between Parental Styles and Attachment to Parents and Peers, Romantic Attachment, and Interpersonal Trust, which is in agreement with the literature. The strong correlations found between the factors of parental education, Autonomy and Love, and the total maternal and paternal Attachment, as well as with the Trust and Communication concerning the father and the mother, should be mentioned. Love and Autonomy also present a positive, moderate and significant association with the factor Trust of the Attachment to Peers and Loving Couple. Finally, the predictive effect of the Parental Styles in the variables under analysis, although some of the values are modest, corroborates the influence of parental education in several relationships that adolescents establish.

Keywords : parental educational styles; attachment to parents and peers; attachment to romantic couple; interpersonal trust; adolescence.
